In recent years our Missionaries have served in the Diocese of Lodwar and the Archdiocese of Nairobi.

NAIROBI

Nairobi is the capital and a huge city boasting a cool climate and great resources, but many urban problems as well. Our Missionaries have been active in connection with a Parish in a poorer section of the city. They have assisted with teaching in and helping maintain an informal elementary school for the many children who cannot attend a Government school. Some have also been involved in overseeing the sponsorship program that provides scholarships to needy children by the Christian Foundation for Children and Aging. Others developed feeding programs for the schoolchildren, and peer counseling programs among older youth who can be trained to assist their classmates to deal with the grave dangers of urban life. Some worked with the many street children who are subject to problems of poverty, drugs, prostitution, AIDS, theft, or other factors. Young people at a school for those with physical or mental disabilities were helped by the efforts of several Lay Missionaries. The Parish has also provided many opportunities for ministry with music and religious education.  At this time we do not have missionaries serving in the Nairobi Archdiocese.

LODWAR

Lodwar is a hot, semi-desert region in the north of Kenya near the Sudan border. Many of the people are nomadic, with herds of cows and goats that follow the seasonal pastures. There are also thousands of refugees from long and bitter conflicts in neighboring countries. The Diocese, which is headed by an S.M.A. Bishop, maintains numerous ministries and welcomes a variety of missionary groups.

Currently we do not have missionaries in Lodwar, but these are the types of ministries our missionaries have been involved in: In Lodwar town our Lay Missionaries have served in secondary school teaching, and in facilitating the construction of offices and living quarters,. They have used their time also to be involved in small Christian communities or prayer groups, and individual ministry to friends and neighbors among the Turkana people. They have lived in housing on the mission compound.
